Lize Myburgh
|
Lize Myburgh is an emerging, contemporary ceramic and mixed media artist born in South Africa, living and working respectfully on the unceded lands of the Wurundejeri people of the Eastern Kulin Nation in Naarm, Victoria.
Myburgh's fine art practice engages in a range of hand building and wheel work techniques, this range allows her to push the potential of clay. She likes to combine materials and techniques from other mediums and repurposes and re-contextualizes them when combined with ceramic processes such as assemblages, glazing and firing. Myburgh's experimental approach to her making allows her to expand the conceptual potential of her work. Her concepts are inspired by personal experiences in combination with researching cultural and political issues, she then uses the emotional knowledge to ground her sculptural ceramics. Her artwork encourages an emotional response and discussion with the audience. Lize Myburgh has been immersed in the local Melbourne/Naarm ceramics community from a young age, which taught her the value of being part of and giving back to your creative community. Lize has been a ceramic educator since 2018, working at both Council and private studios as a tutor and technician. Teaching allows Lize to share and connect with other creative people that come from a range of backgrounds, who can connect over the common love for clay. |
